Judaism!

Intro:
Judaism was founded in Mesopotamia and now has 14
million followers. Most Jews live in Israel, Europe, and the U.S.A..
Their symbol, the Star of David, (shown on left) is their Religious symbol.


Founder:
The founder of Judaism was Abraham. He was a philosopher
and was chosen and sent by God.


Numbers of Followers and Locations:
Today, Judaism has 14 million followers all over the world.
They mostly live in Israel, Europe, and the U.S.A..


Holy Books and Sacred Texts:
The two main Holy books of Judaism are the Talmud, and the Torah.
The Torah consist of the 5 books of Moses. The Talmud is the Jewish law,
ethics, customs, and History.


Religious Holidays:
Jews celebrate many holidays. Like, Rosh Hashanah, the New Year.
Also Yom Kippur, The Day of Attonement. There is also the Sukkot, the
festival of booths, Hanukkah, the festival of lights, Tub'Shevat, the New
Year for Trees, the Puriam, Esther, and lastly, Pesach, the Passover.


Rituals and Customs:
Jews follow rituals and customs such as the Sabbath which is the day of rest
and worship. The Sabbath is on a Saturday. Also there is the Tefillin, black leather
boxes containing scrolls inscribed with verses form the bible.


Particular Dress/Clothing:
Jews dress a certain way. for instance the men and boys wear Yamaka's
which symbolize the humbling relationship between man and God, showing
that a mans ego can not get as high as Gods. its a little round cap that sits on
top of a Jewish mans head. Men who are Jewish do not shave their beards
because the Torah forbids it. Lastly, some Jews wear the Star of David around
their necks to show their faith.


Hierarchy/organization:

The jewish religion has many leaders that are very important
like, a Rabbi is a teacher and decider of matters of religious law,
next Chazan is a person who leads congregation in prayer. Next,
a Gabbai is a volunteer who assists with Torah readings and a Kohein
is a Descendant of Aaron, the original High Priest
Another is a Levi is a Descendant of the biblical Levites, and a Rebbe
is a The leader of a Chasidic communith. Lastly, Tzaddik is a a
righteous person with spiritual power.
